George Willard Ballantyne of Manhattan, died Jan. 28, in the Bozeman Deaconess Hospital of natural causes. He was 77.

He was born March 20, 1914, in Kuroki, N.D., to James and Emma (Thurston) Ballantyne. He grew up and received his schooling in Westhope, N.D.

He came to Montana in 1935 and to Manhattan in 1937. He became an apprentice bee keeper at that time and in 1945 he purchased Clover Dale Apiaries in Manhattan. He operated the business until 1984 when he retired.

On July 3, 1940, he married Mildred Roth in Manhattan.

He was a member of the Manhattan Presbyterian Church and the Manhattan Lodge No. 59 AF and AM, the Scottish Rite bodies of Livingston and Al Bedoo Shrine in Billings. He was an avid baseball fan.

He is survived by his wife of Manhattan; a son, Grant Ballantyne of Manhattan; a sister, Mrs. Reginald (Vivian) Campin of Blaine, Wash.; two grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, seven brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services are 1:30 p.m. Friday in the Dokken-Nelson Sunset Chapel. Interment will be in Meadowview Cemetery, Manhattan.
