Religious figure. Alice Huber was a painter but told her friends, "When I find a work of perfect charity, I will join it." She began working with Rose Hawthorne Lathrop, daughter of novelist Nathaniel Hawthorne. In 1900, the two co-founded a Dominican order which still exists to aid patients with terminal cancer. She became known as Mother Rose.
