Charles Auwarter, age 89, of Highland, formerly of Troy, died on Monday, March 3, 2003, at St. Joseph Hospital in Highland.
He was born on Sept. 29, 1913, in Troy, the son of the late Robert and Caroline Daluege Auwarter.
He married Jennie Labelle in October of 1953 at Friedens United Church of Christ in Troy. She preceded him in death in 1972.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a step-daughter: Jeanette Pauk; a brother: Alfred Auwarter; three sisters: Lucille and Imogene Auwarter and Eleanor Ross; and a nephew: Truman Ross.
Mr. Auwarter was a graduate of Bradley University in Peoria. He worked at McDonnell-Douglas Aircraft in St. Louis, as well as owned and managed Blue Haven Restaurant in Troy for many years, and retired from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II. His memberships included the First Congregational Church in Highland.
