Grandma

Born Oct.17,1909 in Las Vegas, N.M. Mary Garduno was the daughter of Rosendo and Ramaldita(Martinez)Garduno. She moved to the Montrose area in 1954.

On Aug.6,1928 she was married to John A. Duran. In addition to her husband she is survived by three sons and two daughters; Natch Duran, Aurora; Ernest Duran, Commerce City; Robert Duran, Thornton; Genivie Lucero The Dalles, Ore., Mary Lou Duran, Montrose.

Also surviving are three brothers and one sister; Jake Garduno, Montrose; Archie Garduno, Las Vegas, N.M.; Estanislado Garduno, Montrose; Viola Garcia, Ely, Nev.. Tw brothers and two sisters are deceased. She also had five brothers and four sisters.

Mary was my Grandma. She was the best there could be. Grandma had the bluest green eyes. She was beautiful! Spainish eyes they were. All my grandparents, all lived in Montrose, which is three hundred miles away from Denver. So we were not able to see them as often as we would like. However when we did visit, my Grandma always had food on the table waiting for us. If you love homemade tortillas, with beans and chile, she was the best cook. Her home never had a speck of dust in it. Everything in her home was so organized. She was always so kind and loving. I couldnt help myself and would give her the biggest hug and tell her I loved her every chance I had. She was not only a good homemaker inside, but also outside. She made the most beautiful rock garden I ever seen. That same garden still sits there today. Everytime we would leave, both my grandparents would walk us out to the car and stand there and wave to us untill we were to far away to see them. I would watch them wave untill they disappeared. I would always cry, wondering if that would be the last time I would see them. However, I always saved my change and would call both my grandparents at least once a week. My grandmother told me she was so happy I thought of her. In response, I say of course I love you grandma.

My Grandma Duran seemed to be in great health. Then one day she didnt feel to well. She went to the emergency to get checked and was sent home. A couple of hours later she collapsed in the bathroom at her home. She suffered from a brain aneurism. I was angry for the longest time because she was sent home from the hospital. I felt she could of somehow been saved. What really hurt was watching my Dad mourn for her. And then to see my Grandpa. He seemed to have a lot of anger in him... like this wasn't suppose to happen. It just broke my heart. I will always miss you Grandma, and I will always love you...forever ever and ever.

Wife & Mother......The shade on the gravestone is from a pine tree I planted a few years back next to the grave of both my grandparents. The tree has really matured.
