MOURNERS SHARE GRIEF OF ANTHONY, HIS FAMILY
FUNERAL FOR SISTER OF DENVER NUGGETS STAR WAS MONDAY
Sun, The (Baltimore, MD) - Tuesday, December 28, 2010

A couple of hundred mourners joined the family of Denver Nuggets forward Carmelo Anthony at the funeral Monday for his elder sister, Michelle Anthony, in Randallstown.

The mother of four children, Michelle Anthony, 38, died Dec. 21 in Baltimore. Details about the cause of death have not been disclosed. A statement released by the Nuggets last week said she died of a "pre-existing condition."

Carmelo Anthony, 26, attended Towson Catholic High School and played college basketball at Syracuse University. He was selected in the first round of the NBA draft by the Nuggets in 2003.

Speakers encouraged those in attendance, including the NBA star and his wife, Lala Vazquez, to rely on their faith for comfort, strength and guidance. Carmelo Anthony did not speak at the service.

Bishop Randolph Corporal from Love Crowd Christian Light Church in Baltimore recited Scriptures describing the splendor and beauty of heaven. He described Michelle Anthony as his "favorite girl."

"If it wasn't for the Lord, I don't know what I would do today," Corporal told the crowd. "Let not your heart be troubled. We pray to God that he will keep you and strengthen you."

Michelle Anthony was born Aug. 18, 1972, in Brooklyn, N.Y., where she graduated from John Jay High School, and moved to Baltimore in 1992, according to an obituary distributed at the service. It also noted "her luminous smile, wild sense of humor and her love for music, particularly the sounds of Mary J. Blige."

Besides her brother, Michelle Anthony is survived by her children, Kiyonna, Iyonna, Briyonna and Davonta; her mother, Mary Anthony; two other brothers, Direll and Robby; a sister, Shanee Graham; three stepsisters, Daphne, Ana and Cherise; and her grandfather, Glen Anthony .

The service was held at Vaughn C. Greene Funeral Home.

Michelle and her siblings were raised by her Mother Mary after Father Carmelo Sr from Puerto Rico, who lost a battle to cancer when Michelle was twelve years old. Michelle has three other siblings besides her Famous Nugget baby brother. Her sister Daphine and her brothers Wilford and Robert. When her Mother use to work as a house-keeper Michelle looked over little Melo.

What Carmelo said what he will miss more than anything is her calling him after each game to tell him what he did wrong, but also how well he played. She was his best fan. She will be missed so much by her family, especially her precious children.

My sister holds me tight
My sister kisses me goodnight
My sister knows when I'm mad
My sister helps me when I'm sad
My sister is so smart
My sister has my heart
My sister loves me lots
My sister ties the knots
My sister is here to stay
My sister I have until this very day
My sister I wish you well
My sister yes I can tell
My sister asked if I lied
My sister knows if I've cried
My sister has moved away
My sister is in my heart to and will always stay
