PORT BYRON | Walter R. Ball, 74, of State Street Road, Port Byron, passed away Thursday, July 10, 2014 at his home with his family by his side after an extended illness.

Walt was born in the town of Throop on June 14, 1940, the son of Carroll and Grace Axton Ball. He was a graduate of Port Byron High School. He was employed by Cayuga Community College as a custodian for more than 20 years, retiring in 2002. He also was a crop and dairy farmer for most of his life. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and had a love for music and animals.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, the former Helen Mckeen; sons, Steven (Tina) Ball, of Port Byron, and Gary Donalds, of Throop; a daughter, Bonnie (Kenneth) Bivens, of Las Vegas, Nev.; grandchildren, Steven Jr., Ashley, Nicholas, Grace, Sophia, Christina, and Jackie, and also seven great-grandchildren.

Calling hours were held on Sunday, July 13, 2014 at the Audioun Funeral Home LLC, 218 Main St., Port Byron. Funeral services were held on Monday, July 14, 2014 at the funeral home. Interment was in Pine Hill Cemetery, Throop.

In lieu of flowers, contributions to either Hospice of the Finger Lakes, 1130 Corporate Drive, Auburn, NY 13021 or your local SPCA.
