Cathy Abel, 50, of Arkoma, Okla., formerly of Russellville, died Thursday, May 1, 2014, at the Specialty Select Hospital in Sparks Regional Medical Center in Fort Smith.
She was born Dec. 7, 1963, in Hawthorne, Calif., to Robert Virgil Thien Sr. and Ruth Elizabeth Madison Thien. She was a former bookkeeper for Hartsfield Insurance Company, and was a member of the Riggs-Hamilton American Legion Auxiliary, unit 20, Roger-Rye VFW Ladies Auxiliary, No. 2283 Russellville, 8 and 40 Russellville Salon 903, and Foxey Hatters Red Hat Society and the Cooties. She was preceded in death by her parents; her grandparents, Jack and Clara Madison; and a granddaughter, Mercedes Abel.
Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Kevin and Laura Abel of Arkoma; and Jack Abel of Galena, Kan.; two daughters and a son-in-law, Crystal and Billy Howell of Arkoma, and Violet Abel of Russellville; a brother and sister-in-law, Bobby and Tammie Thien of Russellville; 10 grandchildren, Jennifer, Alex, Haley, Riley, Tyler, Austin, Madison, Jerzie, Cadence and Cesylliah; and numerous nephews and nieces.
The family will conduct a private memorial service at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Shinn Funeral Service of Russellville.
