William Moore Barrick was born in Lynchburg, Virginia. He came to Audrain County, Missouri with his family shortly before the Civil War. After the war he married Sarah Jane Pinnell, with whom he had two daughters and two sons. He later moved to St. Louis. A plasterer by trade, in his later years he lived with his niece, Nina Dickinson.
