In 1854 they settled in Springfield, Illinois where Leonhardt Americanizes his name to Leonard Boehner and works as a laborer and gardener. Leonard and Barbara have 8 children (3 die in childhood).
Leonard dies in 1912 at the age of 85 Years, 2 Months, 27 Days.
