OBIT: Robert 'Bob'Homer Allen age 85 of Wheelersburg went home to be with the Lord, Thursday, February 24, 2011 at Southern Ohio Medical Center in Portsmouth.
He was born July 21, 1925 in New Boston to Homer and Anna (Hopper) Allen.
He graduated from Glenwood High School in New Boston in 1943. Bob served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, and continued until he was honorably discharged in 1953. He served as the Station Keeper for the Reserve office in Portsmouth. While in the Reserves he attended Ohio University in Portsmouth and played for their basketball team during the 1947-48 season. From 1953 until 1985 he worked as a maintenance supervisor with the Goodyear Atomic Plant. Bob was a member since 1938 of the New Boston Methodist Church, then Christ United Methodist Church in Sciotoville, and was a member of the Western Sun Masonic Lodge in Wheelersburg. He enjoyed fishing, trains, and spending time with his family.
He is survived by one son, R. Steve Allen (Diane) of Wheelersburg; one daughter, Nancy Donini (Joe) of West Portsmouth; four grandchildren, Joshua Donini (Julie) of Nashville, TN, Tracy Stiles of West Portsmouth, Andrea Zutavern (Craig) of Cincinnati, Emily Blankemeyer (Cole) of Dublin; five great grandchildren, Alex Stiles, Maria Stiles, Harrison Donini, Calel Donini, Ellie Zutavern; one brother, Don (Pearl) Allen of Wheelersburg.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Martha and one son David. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m, Monday, February 28, 2011 at Christ United Methodist Church in Sciotoville with Rev. Frank James and Rev. Richard North officiating.
Interment will be in Memorial Burial Park in Wheelersburg. Military rites will be provided by the James Dickey Post. #23. Friends may call Sunday from 4 - 8 p.m. at the Wolfe-Nelson Funeral Home in Sciotoville and Monday from 10 - 11 at the church.
