On October 7, 1872, the Andersons left Illinois on a 172 mile trip to Missouri. They settled on a farm near Campbell (Dunklin County), where they would remain the rest of their lives. They had two more children after arriving in Missouri: Leta Bell, born March 10, 1874; and Enslow, born in 1878.

By 1900, five of the Anderson children had died, leaving only Silas and Leta Bell. In 1901, Robert died, widowing his wife of 40 years. He was survived by his wife Elizabeth, his son Silas, and his daughter Leta Bell.
