Gwenavere Amerman
Gwenavere LaVonne Amerman, 75, of Clay City, passed away at 4:17am, November 12, 2007 following an extended illness.
She was born December 20, 1931 in Clay City to Hermit "Hap" and Mary (Rea) Alkire.
She graduated from Patricksburg High School with the class of 1950 as the Salutatorian.
In a double wedding ceremony with Alice and John Emmert she was married to Donald Lee Amerman June 2, 1956 in Terre Haute.
As a young lady she worked for Sarkus Tarzian in Bloomington testing televising tubes, Ralphs IGA in Clay City, she also worked for the Farm Bureau Co op in Brazil and Clay City, Macanell Nursing Home as a nurse's aid and most recently as the Site Director of the Senior Nutrition Program in Clay City.
She was a member of the First United Church of Christ and the Clay City Order of Eastern Star. Gwen was a talented pianist and was blessed with a beautiful voice. She gave freely of her talents singing and playing at numerous weddings, funerals, and community events for more than 50 years. She also known to have a giving spirit and loved to help others above herself.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include her husband of 51 years Donald Amerman, daughter Donna Amerman of Terre Haute, son David Amerman of Clay City, granddaughter Josie Amerman also of Clay City, brother Donovan Rea Alkire and wife Sylvia of Linton, as well as several nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Funeral Information
Services will be at Schoppenhorst Funeral Home Thursday November 15, 2007 at 11:00am with Pastors Julie Western and Gary Tatum officiating. Burial will follow at St. Peters Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4-8pm and again Thursday from 10am until time of services.
