Mary Louisa Artis. Mary was born on 24 August 1844 in Ohio, daughter of George Artis and Susan Allen (parents=NC).

On 7 June 1870, David and Mary lived in Calvin Township, Cass County, Michigan with four children- David, Loretta, Jonathan, and Charles. He was a farmer while she was keeping house. They owned $900 in real estate.


In June 1900, David and Mary and their granddaughter Hazel L. Cousins. lived in Mayfield township, Grand Traverse County. He worked as farmer while Mary was keeping house. Hazel was born on 16 April 1900 in Michigan, the daughter of Blanche Cousins, who died the month following the birth. Hazel died on 1 July 1902 in Mayfield township from pulmonary consumption.


On 19 April 1910, Mary was an inmate at the Northern Michigan Asylum.1
Mary died from pulmonary tuberculosis on 18 February 1916 at the Traverse City State Hospital in Traverse City. She was buried in the Bartlett Cemetery.


David and Mary (Artis) Cousins were the parents of nine children (5 dead before 1900).
