Rufus Davis, Sr. was born to the late Mrs.Lucille Davis, Eufaula, Alabama ,on September 2,1923. He moved to Mongomery , AL at an early age,and joined St. John Catholic Church,where he was an altar boy. Known as "Slick" to his friends he was a hard working man, he held down TWO full time jobs up until 6 months before he passed.He was married for over 25 years,to the love of his life, Addie Jean Gardner-Davis. Mr. Davis was employed at Alabama State University,for over 33 years, and at Farm Bureau Ins. for seventeen years. After a short battle ,with lung Cancer, he departed this life on March 5th 1987 at Baptist Medical Center, Montgomery AL.
He leaves behind, in addition to his loving widow, nine children, Mr. Rufus Davis Jr. (Margaret) of Montgomery, AL., Lt. Rufetta A. Davis, US Army, of Savannah, GA. Mrs Rosalyn Roper (Bobby) of Travis AFB,CA. Patrick R. Davis, USN, Norfolk, VA.(Cynthia), Mrs. Patricia Wheat(Kenny),of Montgomery, AL. He was a wonderful,and devoted stepfather, to Ms.Brendalyn Gardner, Atlanta, GA., Mrs Deborah G. White (Kenny), Mr William L. Smith,(DeZola)and Mr Anthony J Smith, all of Mongomery , AL. Also mourning are three sisters-in-laws, Esther Dabney, Ruth Mobley, Detroit, MI.and Rosa Jolley, B'ham AL.one bro-in-law Nathaniel Dabney, 15 grandchildren, a host of neices and nephews,cousins and dear friends.They do not make men like, "Daddy Rufus" anymore !
