Jack W. Hays, 83, of Lake Jackson, Texas, passed away Saturday, August 1, 2009. He was born January 2, 1926, in Hugoton, Kansas, to Bill and Gertrude Hays. He served in the Army, fought in WWII and was awarded the Purple Heart. After returning to school, Jack earned a degree in chemical engineering from Kansas State College. He worked for DuPont for five years before moving to Lake Jackson in 1954. He was employed with Dow Chemical for 30 years and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Lake Jackson.

Jack enjoyed carpentry, home repair projects and gardening. He was an avid reader and seldom was seen without a book in his hand. He loved his grandchildren and would play games with them for hours. He was a good, kind and loving husband and father and will be greatly missed.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Jessica Hays; three brothers; and two sisters.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Betty Jean Hays of Lake Jackson; three sisters, Flo LeVaugh, Rosemary Roche and Helen O'Brien; four children, Judy Seymour and husband, Raymond, of San Antonio, Jan Guerra of Lake Jackson, Richard Hays and wife, Candi, of Pinehurst, Texas, and Jeanine Meyer and husband, Roy, of Lake Jackson; nine grandchildren, Christie Lawson and husband, Michael, Michael Seymour and wife, Kerry, Christopher Hays and wife, Julia, Patrick Hays, Jennifer Guerra, Ryan Guerra, John Lee, Sam Meyer and Kelli Meyer; seven great-grandchildren, Jonathan and Katheryn Scott, Andrew Lawson, Kyle Seymour, Julia Whitlow, Anthony Guerra and Colin Hays.
