Aged Resident Dies Following Short Illness

Mrs. Margaret Buchanan Passes Sunday Morning Following An Illness of Six Weeks

Mrs. Margaret Jane Buchanan, 78 years, widow of the late John Buchanan, passed away Sunday morning at 9:30 o'clock at her home on north High Street, of arterial sclerosis. Her journey was begun almost seventy-eight years ago on the old homestead just a short distance north of Covington, April 22, 1852. She was the daughter of Henry and Margaret Fulker. Her life, with the exception of two years spent in Iowa, was spent on their old homestead. The trip to Iowa was made there and back by covered wagon. Returning, she continued to reside with her parents on the old farm, attending the local school and enjoying the social activities of that day. On June 14, 1874, she was married to John Allen Buchanan. Shortly after their marriage they established their home on the farm adjoining the one on which she had grown up, and here they reared their children. Not only their own children found this home a haven, but it became a home to others as well, and these in turn loved her like a mother. When ill health compelled Mr. Buchanan to leave the farm, they removed to Covington. Here they resided, going to and fro to their old homestead, enjoying the privileges of retirement, until the death of Mr. Buchanan which occurred in 1924. Thus, her companion even from early childhood, with whom she had shared her journeys, her sorrows, her joys and her life, passed on to the home to which she has gone to join him. Some three years ago she became afflicted with paralysis and other severe ailments from which she never fully recovered. However, she clung to her home to which she was so endeared and was permitted to enjoy as best she could until the end came. So we remain, her life a precious memory now. She leaves two sons, Otto L. of West Milton, Homer W. of Covington, and one daughter, Mrs. Harry Eidemiller, who resides on the old home farm; ten grandchildren and one great-grandchild; also one brother, Mr. Henry Fulker of Covington. There also are many near of kin, a number of whom received from her a mother's care. Her husband, one brother, Peter Fulker, one daughter, Mrs. W. E. Zimmerman and one grandson, George Richard Buchanan, preceded her in death. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 at the home, Rev. Thomas officiating. Interment in Highland Cemetery.
