Perry Carey, son of Stewart and Celia Carey, was born near Painter Creek in Miami County, January 31, 1879.

He spent all his boyhood years on the farm where he was born. He came to Covington with his mother and sister about twenty years ago and has lived here ever since. His father died while they still lived on the farm and his mother died in 1910.

When about seventeen years of age he became crippled and has been handicapped in that way all his life.

After the marriage of his sister, Bertha, he made his home with her most of the time. They lived together at the time of his death which occurred New Years Day at 10:30 a.m. following a bad fall. Mr. Carey, in attempting to descend a flight of stairs, lost his foothold and fell the length of the stairs. A physician was called immediately and examination did not reveal any serious injury. A short time later he began to suffer intensely and, while his sister was at the neighbors calling a doctor, he passed away. Physicians stated that death was due to a severe heart attack.

He was a man of fine Christian character, having united with the Christian Church at Circle Hill early in life. For the last few years he has been a member of the Salvation Army at Piqua. He took a great interest in religious work and, though his death came so very suddenly, he was prepared to go. He leaves to mourn his death the sister with whom he lived, Mrs. Bertha Pearson, and Mrs. Eva Harshbarger of near Circle Hill, and two nephews.

Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon at the Mennonite Church in charge of the Salvation Army Captain of Piqua and Dr. Omer S. Thomas. Interment was made in Pleasant Hill.
