EMMA C. CASSEL
On August 13, 1927, Mrs. Emma C. Cassel passed to her reward after two years of dreadful suffering from cancerous trouble. She was the daughter of Azariah and Elizabeth Stewart whose home was north-west of Ludlow Falls. She was born Dec. 13, 1860, and in that home she grew to the years of womanhood. On December 31, 1879, she was united in marriage with James Ellis Coppock. Their journey together was but little longer than fifteen years when he was called away, April 3, 1895, leaving four little children in the mother's care, the oldest one only twelve years old. The mother bravely met her task of labor and sacrificed for her loved ones. It was on April 20, 1916, that she became the wife of Rudolph Cassel. They lived on the farm west of Pleasant Hill until a few years ago when the poor health of Mrs. Cassel rendered it necessary to leave the farm. They built a beautiful home in Pleasant Hill, and there she spent her remaining days. During the last few months of her life her sufferings were severe. She bore them, however, with great patience and Christian's fortitude. Her loved ones ministered her with untiring devotion. In her departure the community has lost a woman of sterling character and a strong personality with firm convictions and answering devotion. The family circle has lost a devoted wife, mother and sister. Besides her companion and four children she leaves two brothers, Hiram Stewart of Sulphur Grove, O. and Charles Stewart of Ludlow Falls. The funeral service was held in the Christian Church at Pleasant Hill and the attendance was very large. The burial occurred in the Union Cemetery near Ludlow Falls. The age was 66 years and 8 months.
