Obituary of Lucinda (Woodworth) Allen

Grandmother Allen died at her home five miles southwest of Allerton, December 5, after an illness of but a few days duration.
Funeral services were conducted at the home by L. E. Ripley, pastor of the Methodist Episcopal Church. Burial took place at the Allerton cemetery.
Lucinda Woodworth was born in Ohio, March 15, 1822 and was left an orphan at the age of three years.
On December 13, 1849 she was united in marriage to William Allen and by this union became the mother of 13 children all of whom attended her funeral service. Nine of whom were at her bedside at the time of her death.
This unusual family not only from the point of number, but also from the fact that all the children are living.
The youngest being forty-three years old and all able to attend the funeral services of their honored mother.
They respond to roll call in the following order: Josephine Baker, Hugh, Samuel, Frances H., Lucinda Lash of Beatrice,NE., John, Walter of Corydon, George, Henson, Lulu Standford of Woodard, IA., Florence Wymer of Sewal, IA, those whose address does not appear live near Allerton.
Father Allen died four years ago having reached a very ripe age.
Mother Allen united with the Methodist Episcopal Church at the age of 19, and maintained her faith until the end of life.
Telling her children that she was ready when her call came. She died in her ninetieth year "Coming to her grave in a full age like a shock of corn cometh in its season."
Mother Allen leaves her thirteen children, 27 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren, and a large community of friends and neighbors the memory of a long and useful life.
This sad occasion reunited the family of children for the first time in 33 years and knowing that this would be their last homecoming they went to the gallery for a picture. Thus it is that the bond of this large family is broken for a time, but we trust not for eternity.
