Son of Astley, Sir Edward (1729-1802), 4th Baronet and High Sheriff of Norfolk and his 2nd wife, Anne (d. 1792), youngest daughter of Christopher Milles of Nackington (Kent)

Rev. Bernard Astley , born 31 August 1764, was educated at Pembroke College, Cambridge (BA 1787); ordained deacon in 1786 and priest in 1788. Rector of Little Snoring (Norfolk) and Bratton (Somerset) in 1788. He married, 31 August 1787 at Salle (Norfolk), Anne (d. 1830), daughter of Edward Hase of Salle, but had no issue;. He died at East Barsham (Norfk), 25 November 1788 and was buried at Melton Constable where he is commemorated by a memorial erected by his widow.
