Youth Loses Life In Utah Accident
John Randall Bentsen, 19, son of Mr. and Mrs. F C Bentsen,
was killed early Sunday morning in a car accident at Logan. A student at Utah State University. Mr. Bentsen had registered for his sophomore year. He was a passenger in the car driven by Arthur McCallister, a junior, and
fellow resident along with other students at a home in Logan. According to reports, the car left the road on a curve, and crashed into a tree, throwing Bentsen from the vehicle. Mr. Bentsen was born February 5, 1947 and had lived his entire life in Montpelier. He graduated from Montpelier High School with the Class of 1964. He was a member and priest in the LDS Church, and also an Eagle
Scout who had received the Duty to God award. An infant brother and sister preceded him in death. Besides his parents he is survived by a grandfather, William Wallentine of Paris. Services were held at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the Montpelier LDS Third-Fifth Ward Chapel and interment was in the Montpelier cemetery under the direction of Matthews Mortuary. Mr. Bentsen became the fourth Bear Lake County youth to have been killed in a car accident this year, two occurring within the county Alan Nate, 21, was killed at Fish Haven April 17, Marvin J Dixon, 22, near Geneva on
August 24, and DeWayne L. Swa, Jr. in Caribou County.
Prayer at the mortuary was by Chris Stanfield Mrs. Lester
Armatage played prelude and postlude music. The invocation was by Ernest Beutler, obituary, Bishop Noel
Stuart; vocal solo, "Danny Boy," Max Haddock; speaker
Leonard Johnson; "Green Leaves of Summer" by trio, Philip
Hulme, Max Haddock, Eugene J. Grimes, speaker, President
Eugene P Shepherd; "Peace I Leave With You" by trio of Mrs. L. M. Arnell, Mrs. Reuben Heer and Mrs. David P. Jensen;
benediction, Dr. D. N. Meek. Howard McMurray dedicated the grave in the Montpelier cemetery. Pallbearers were Phil Parker, Evan Crosby, Bob Jensen, Jon Ericsson, Mark Johnson,
and James Hymas. The honorary pallbearers were Ron Stanfield, Robert Moss, Jerry Wallentine, Larry Bentsen, Chris Stanfield, Ronald Johnson, Gary Anderson and LeRoy Jackson.
