Charles W. Curtis Jr., born in the leap year 1892, graduated from Harvard College in 1914, the class of Leverett Saltonstall, James B. Conant and Sinclair Weeks. The son of Charles Willis & Cora Belle (Arnold) Curtis, he joined the family business, Curtis Shoe Company, along with brothers John, Arnold & Roger after college. He traveled extensively in South America for the company. In 1916 he married Margaret Covode Blair, daughter of Judge Charles Benton Blair, in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Charles & Margaret took their honeymoon in Cuba. They had five children, Virginia Blair, Charles Willis III, James Blair, Margaret Frances and Mary Belle. The sons went on to become successful businessmen and daughter Margaret became a well known painter. Charles & Margaret had ten grandchildren.

[Sometime prior to the 1930 census, Charles fell seriously ill, never to return to his home - a personal & family tragedy of immense proportions]

Children: James Blair Curtis age 20, a bookkeeper in a bank, income $780 year, finished high school; Margaret Frances Curtis age 19, finished high school and Mary Belle Curtis age 16, junior in high school. [By 1940 Margaret had returned with four children to her native Grand Rapids, for economic reasons - oldest daughter, Virginia, who married in 1934, remained in Massachusetts.]
