Henry was a provision dealer with his brother, Francis Chester Curtis, at their shop in the basement of the old Marlborough Town Hall following the Civil War. Three brothers were living in Marlborough at that time - Henry C., Francis C. and the the older John Edwin Curtis, the latter engaged in the manufacture of shoes, which carried on four generations in Marlborough. Henry resided on Newton Street not far from the Town Hall. It is not clear what became of the brothers' grocery business following the destruction of the Town Hall by fire in 1902. It is not known why Henry ended up in Southbridge, although his brother Dr. Lucian Willis Curtis was a prominent doctor there until sometime before his death in 1903.
