Graveside services, with full military rites, for Retired 1st Lt. Louis J. Cardamone, Sr., 80, of West Columbia were held on Monday, November 22, 2004 at Woodridge Memorial Park, officiated by Rev. Tom Grove.

Mr. Cardamone, husband of 55 years to Regina Irene Piermarini Cardamone, died November 20, 2004. Born December 5, 1923, in Germantown, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Carman Cardamone and Angelina Roberta Scherillo.

Mr. Cardamone was retired from the United States Army where he served as a combat infantryman in WW II and the Korean War. He received a Battlefield Commission during combat at Pungsan, Korea, during the Korean War. Mr. Cardamone was decorated with the Silver Star, the Bronze Star, three Purple Hearts, the Army of Occupation Medal, the WW II Victory Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, and the EAME Service Ribbon.

Owner of the very popular Luigi's Italian Kitchen in West Columbia from 1962 to 1985, Mr. Cardamone received acclaim from both local and national food columnists. The restaurant was a favorite spot for past governors and senators, as well as USC football and basketball coaches and players in the 1960s, '70s, and '80s.
