Mrs. Emma Birthman, of Ingram, died at St. Mary's hospital at Ladysmith Wednesday, Aug. 1.

Emma Rudesill Birthman was born Jan. 27, 1884, near Baldwin, Wis. Her father died when she was eight years of age. Later her mother married again and she lived at home until she was old enough to work. In 1900 she was married to Wilbur W. Birthman. Shortly afterward they move to Glen Flora to make their home. Mr. Birthman worked on the railroad section for several years.

They raised a family of four daughters, Mae (Mrs. Earl Kennedy), Ingram, Ila (Mrs. Paul Hamrick), Minneapolis, Neva (Mrs. Lynn Huven), Merrill, and her twin sister, Eva (Mrs. Walter Lemanske), of Los Angeles, Calif.

The past few years the Birthmans had lived on a farm west of Ingram, until Mr. Birthman's health failed, when they moved to Ingram to make their home. Mr. Birthman died Oct. 26, 1944, and since then Mrs. Birthman's health gradually failed, due to heart trouble.

Besides her children, Mrs. Birthman leaves 14 grandchildren and six great grandchildren: also nine brothers and sisters to mourn her loss.

Mrs. Birthman was a kind neighbor and numbered her friends by her acquaintances. Rev. Harry Lee conducted funeral services at Ingram Methodist Church Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock. The men's quartet of Glen Flora, composed of Mr. Van Patter, Mr. Riley and son, and C. Erickson, sang at Mrs. Birthman's request. C. McElravy, of Ladysmith had charge of the burial which was at Glen Flora in the family lot.

Those from a distance attending the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Paul Hamrick and son, Bud, Minneapolis; Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Huven and daughter, Dorothy, of Merrill, Mrs. Walter Lemanske, Los Angeles, Calif.; Mr. and Mrs. Manley Rudesill, and Mrs. C.L. Carpenter and son, of Winter; Mrs. R.H. Green, Minneapolis; Mrs. Olive Thoen, St. Paul; Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Rudesill, Baldwin; Mrs. Dell Clark, Spring Valley and Robert Reed, wife and mother, of Viroqua.
