First son and heir of Sir John Bardolf, 3rd Lord Bardolf by Elizabeth Damory, daughter of Sir Roger Damory and Elizabeth de Clare.

Husband of Agnes de Poynings, daughter of Sir Michael de Poynings and Joan Rokesley. They were married after 10 Feb 1366, and had two sons and two daughters: Thomas and William, Elizabeth who married Sir Robert Scales, and Sir Henry Percy and Cecily, who married Sir Brian Stapleton.

Summoned to Parliament 28 Dec 1375 to 03 Sept 1385 as Willelmo Bardolf de Wirmegeye. He brought a suit against William FitzHugh of London in 1377 for refusing to surrender four scohons (escutheons) with hatchments of his arms, which were found in FitzHugh's possession.
