Joseph Hawkins Cameron

Joseph was raised on the family farm outside of Burlington Iowa.
He traveled west to California with his older sister Sarah J and her husband Jacob Leffler and other Leffler family members in the early 1850s in an ox drawn wagon. The long hard trek across the plains and mountain were hard on Joseph. During his travels west he contrated TB. After his sister's return to Des Moines Counnty Iowa in the mid 1850s, Joseph remained in California and never recovered from his illness.
