Ainsworth was born in Los Angeles, California, November 15, 1908; BA, UC Los Angeles (1930), Library Certificate, USC (1932); she worked as a children's librarian for the Los Angeles Public Library (1928-35), school librarian, for Los Angeles public schools (1949-51), and head librarian for Monrovia Public Library (1953-67).

A regular reviewer for the Los Angeles Times and the Monrovia News post, some of her published works include "In the shade of the juniper tree: a life of Fray Junipero Serra", with her husband, Edward M. Ainsworth (1970) and "The McCallum saga: the story of the founding of Palm Springs" (1973).
