Joseph B. "Joe" Dubovik was born in Massachusetts, and served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean conflict. He met Jean (Craigie) Hodges, of Holyoke, Massachusetts, in the 1970's and was a surrogate father to her children. He was especially close to Mary Hodges, her youngest daughter, who considered him as a surrogate father. He was 52 years old when he died at the Soldiers' Home in Holyoke, Massachusetts.
