Jan 'John' Adamczyk was born in 1889 in the rural community of Stalowa Wola, in southeastern Poland during a time when that region was part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. He immigrated to the United States and settled in New Haven, Connecticut where he met and married Anna Rychlak, from Rzeszow, Poland. They married on September 6, 1909. Two of their children, John, and Frank were born while they resided in New Haven. Jan and Anna changed their last name from Adamczyk to Adamski, in an attempt to Americanize it, before moving to Springfield, Massachusetts. Anna and John had five loving children, John, Frank, Anna, Marie, and Anthony 'Tony'. To provide for his family, he worked as a drop forger at Moore Drop Forge in the North end of Springfield working 12 hour days, six days a week in front of an open furnace where steel rods heated to a glowing red, that he used to make drop-forged steel products. Sunday, being his only day of rest was spent attending Mass at Sacred Heart Church, diagonally across the street from their home on Chestnut Street, and with his family. On a cold, rainy, April day in 1931, returning from a long day of work, he slipped and fell backwards climbing the stairs to his home, breaking his neck, and succumbing to his injuries. His wife, Anna, hearing him fall was by his side when he passed. His youngest son, Tony, was only five years-old when John died in that tragic accident. Unfortunately, his many grand children and great grand children never had the pleasure of knowing this hard-working, honorable man, as he passed away before any of them were born.

May he rest in peace.
