Lucy Amelia Williams was born to Enoch and Mary (Harper) Williams in Birmingham, Metropolitan Borough of Birmingham, West Midlands of England on November 29, 1831. Following the 1850 Census, her family emigrated to America where her father purchased a farm in Newfane, Niagra County, New York, valued at $2,200 in 1850. Lucy married Thomas Ashton, (also living in Newfane) on October 15th, 1851, at the age of 19. The couple had two daughters, Nellie, b.1853, and Clara Louisa, b.1855 (d.1869 in Missouri) while living in Niagra, New York. Their 1st son, Charles Edwin, was b.1857, in Dekalb, Marshall County, Indiana. Franklin Eugene was b.1861, and Morris Albert was b.1863. When William Alson was born in 1866, they were living in Rock County, Wisconsin. Daughter Louisa Fairman was b.1868 but died one year later in 1869 when the family had relocated to Pettis County, Missouri. Jessie Elizabeth was born in 1870, one of just four children living on the family's farm, valued at $3780 (per the Census, taken on June 30, 1870) in Missouri. Edith May was born in 1873 and Archibald "Archie" Fairman was born in 1876. The family moved to Kapioma, Atchison County, Kansas and was there when the 1880 Census was taken on June 3rd, 1880. Her daughter, Nellie, had married to a Mr. Bates (b.Maine) and was also living with her parents, along with Nellie's daughter, Louise, who had been born in Jan 1880. Lucy's husband, Thomas, died April 16th, 1901, and was buried at Holton Cemetery, Holton, Jackson County, Kansas. Lucy went to live with her daughter, Jessie Elizabeth, who had married John Rokes, an attorney. They were living in Seattle, King County, Washington, where he practiced Law and was purchasing their home which held their three children, Florence, Charles and Norma. Lucy lived with them for the rest of her days, passing away on May 4th, 1920, in Seattle, Washington. Her remains were returned to Kansas and she was interred with her husband, Thomas, at Holton Cemetery, Holton, Jackson County, Kansas. May they Rest, at Peace, with their loved ones.
