Hazel Kirk Ashton was the 1st child born from the union of Charles and Emma Rosella (Rice) Ashton. She was born on Feb 6th, 1888, in Fresno, California, before her parents decided to relocate to Colorado where her younger brothers and sister were born. Young Hazel began having seizures and was diagnosed with epilepsy as she neared adulthood. She remained in her parents' home where they could watch her and care for her, keeping her as safe as possible when a seizure would occur. She had a seizure in April of 1947, however, that resulted in her falling and being seriously injured. She was taken to Albany General Hospital where she was admitted with the diagnosis of concussion. Poor Hazel never did recover, and passed away at the hospital on April 18th, 1947. Hazel was buried in the same area as other relatives at Willamette Memorial Park in Albany, Linn County, Oregon. She had lived 59 years.
[Hazel's brother, John Paul Ashton, married Otis Myrtle Bass. Their daughter, Daisy Mae, married Delivan Lillard Burkhart, a great grandson of Raymond Sanderson Burkhart. Raymond was a brother of my great, great grandfather, Leander Columbus Burkhart.]
