Rodney grew up in Sedgwick and graduated from Revere High School in Ovid in 1966. He then graduated from Northeastern Junior College in Sterling and the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley. Rodney was a master real estate appraiser for more than 30 years. He was a member of Appraisal Institute with an SRA designation.
Rodney was a friendly, gentle, soft-hearted man, who never knew a stranger. His family was his passion. He was a very involved father and grandfather. He attended all school and sport activities, he coached soccer teams, and held and cared for babies. Rodney took great pride in his grandchildren and enjoyed spoiling them. Rodney remained close to his extended family; he never missed a reunion or family event. He also was quite the handyman doing household repairs and woodworking for family and friends. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing and camping.
Rodney is survived by his wife, Maribeth; son, Nathan Appelhans and wife, Chandra Thomas, and their children, Nathan, Marley, Jack and Lily of Greeley; daughter, Katie Brown and husband, Scott, and their children, Addison and Aidan "Koko" of Colorado Springs; daughter, Julie Call and husband, Tim, and their children, John, Robert and Hayden of Loveland; sister, Thelma Sandquist and husband, Glen, of Sedgwick; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
