Retired Air Force Colonel Amodt passed away at Gables Assisted Living Center. He was born to Leonard Amodt and Ruth Davidson and graduated from Northfield High School. He began his military career in August of 1943 and served as a crew member on B-24 aircraft. Following his discharge in January of 1946, he attended University of Minnesota. On June 21, 1948, he married Betty Leone Bye, and they raised two daughters. He was recalled to active duty in March of 1952 and served as a crew member on B-29 aircraft in Strategic Air Command, then with Military Airlift Command flying C-54 aircraft in the Atlantic Division, and subsequently in Air Rescue Service at Andersen Air Base in Guam. He was next assigned as an AFROTC instructor at University of Illinois, and then as an Air Defense Weapons Controller advisor to Republic of Korea Air Defense System. He served in this capacity during 1961. After his transfer to Okinawa, Japan, he served as a C-130 pilot and then was assigned to the Twelfth Air Force, Tactical Air Command, and served as Chief of Tactical Airlift Operations. His next assignment took him to Vietnam where his duty was Tactical Airlift Liaison Officer with Third Marine Amphibious Force in the First Corps, and then served as Chief of Standardization for the 8th Military Airlift Squadron at McChord AFB, transferring to the Command Section at MAC Headquarters in June 1970 serving as Director of the Secretariat and Division Chief of Advanced Programs and Policy. In August of 1973, he became Commander of the 610 Military Airlift Support Squadron, Yokota AB, Japan. In August of 1976, he became Deputy Air Base Group Commander, McChord AFB and a year later he assumed command of McChord Air Force Base prior to his retirement in June 1978. He then worked for Boeing in Seattle, Washington for about 20 years before his retirement there. During his career, Colonel Amodt has held aeronautical ratings of aerial gunner, bombardier, radar bombardier/navigator, and pilot. His decorations include the Distinguished Flying Cross, Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal, and the Air Force Commendation Medal. He was also a member of the order of Daedalians. Survivors included: daughters Nancy Amodt Caldwell of Idaho Falls, ID, and Peggy Hoon of Baton Rouge, LA, and two grandchildren. Preceding were brothers Leonard and James Amodt. Not buried in Taylor Cemetery.
