Mrs. Mary Ackerman, aged 65 years, mother of Elmer J. Ackerman, of this city, died at her late home, 147 Cherry street, Whitaker, Thursday of last week, after a lingering illness. The deceased was born in Duquesne, but for the past forty years had been a resident of Whitaker. She leaves three sons and two daughters: Harry, of Mt. Lebanon; Elmer J., of Duquesne, S. G. Ackerman, at home; Mrs. J.H. Stumph, of Whitaker and Miss Cecelia Ackerman, at home; also seventeen grandchildren. Funeral services were held from the family home Monday morning at 8:30 o’clock followed by requiem high mass at 9 o’clock in St. Francis’ Catholic church, Munhall. Interment was made in St. Mary Magdalene cemetery. (Duquesne Times, Nov 25, 1932, p 2)
