Pearl H. Carnes went home to be with her Lord on December 21, 2007, in Levelland, TX. Pearl was born October 23, 1920, to Ora (Fraze) and John C. Creek at their home in the Longs community. Pearl grew up in Red Lake and Dora, attending school and graduating from Dora. She went on to graduate from Clovis Beauty College. Pearl married C. J. Carnes, known to everyone as Junior, on November 14, 1942, in a double ceremony with her sister, Vera, in Clovis, NM. The couple lived for a short time in Kress, TX before moving to Portales, NM, where Junior managed the Kemp Lumber yard. They soon moved back home to Dora, just a quarter mile from Pearl's parents. They made their home there for the next 39 years. While Junior established his store and lumber yard in Dora, Pearl managed their farm and cattle. They had two sons, and also kept their nephew for many years after Pearl lost her sister in a car accident. Pearl loved working outside with the cattle and in the garden and yard. Pearl moved to Portales, NM soon after Junior passed away on September 4, 1981. She joined the University Baptist Church after having been a member of the Dora Baptist Church for many years.
She is survived by her two sons, Gerald (Vicki) Carnes of Levelland, TX and Quentin (Connie) Carnes of Portales, NM; 4 grandchildren, Kim (Cory) Newsom of Lubbock, TX, John (Crista) Carnes of Littleton, CO, Collin Carnes of Portales, NM and Quinn (Sharon) Parker of Taos, NM. Pearl was also blessed with five great-grandchildren, Taylor and Chandler Newsom and Stephani, Carson and Keaton Carnes. Also the nephew she considered to be her third son, Jerry (Karen) Landers of College Station, TX. Besides her husband, Pearl was preceded in death by her parents, and her sister Vera.
Services are under the direction of Wheeler Mortuary, of Portales.
