Erinnerung an unsere gefallenen Soldaten in Afghanistan♫

Corporal Konstantin Menz who was born in Backnang, near Stuttgart, in September 1988, sadly lost his life, along with two other German soldiers, in a suicidal attack. Konstantin was 21 years old.

He was only promoted to the rank of a Corporal on February 5, in Afghanistan.

At about 8.30 am Central European Time (12.00 pm local time) Mohammed Afzal, soldier of the Afghan National Army, based at the outpost „Op North" in the province of Pol-i Khomri,, took an AK-47 and opend fire onto several German soldiers, one of whom died on the spot, while eight other soldiers were seriously injured, two of them fatally.

On Friday, February 25, a memorial service was held in the Regen Saint Michael church, attended by German Federal Chancellor Mrs Angela Merkel and Minister of the Defence, Mr Karl Theodor zu Guttenberg.

Konstantin is mourned by his loving parents, sisters Katharina and Janina and his brother Maximilian.

A Note: As a lovely Easter surprise and gift, our friend LRV kindly sponsored Kontantin's memorial. Thank you so much for that most generous proof of pure love and compassion.
