James D. "Spud" Alexander passed away on March 29, 2014, his wife Marie's birthday. She preceded him in death. Spud was a lifelong resident of Etowah County. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Glencoe and was a Charter Member of North Glencoe Baptist Church. He served in the U.S. Navy for several years. He was a Mason, a past master and secretary, receiving his 50-year pin in 2009. He was a master carpenter; retired from Republic Steel. His carpentry skills helped build churches with the Etowah County Baptist Association. He enjoyed quail hunting, fishing and traveling. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie White Alexander; parents, James Alexander and Mary Nix Alexander; siblings, Roscoe Alexander, Ruth Carter and Louise Walker. He is survived by Jim (Jane) Alexander, Becky (Pete) Long, Lisa (Tim) Ball; grandchildren.
