John O Abraham, 83, Pontiac, died at 6:20am Saturday Nov 2,2002 at Livingston Manor, Rural Pontiac. His funeral will be at 11am Wednesday at First Lutheran Church, Pontiac. The Rev Wm J Shields will officiate. Burial will be in Rowe Cemetery, rural Pontiac, where military rites will be accorded. Friends may call at the church on Wednesday from 10am until the time of the service. Harris-Martin-Burke funeral home, Pontiac, has charge of arrangements.

He was born June 30,1919, at Pontiac, the son of Silas J and Javerna I (Hetland) Abraham.

Surviving are 1 sister, June Tapke of Normal;one uncle, Orin Hetland of Streator; one aunt Marge Tribley of Pontiac; 2 nieces, Julie (Norman) Kendall and Janet (Russell) Starkey;4 nephews, Dennis (Pat) Abraham, Barry (Cindy) Tapke, Jim (Dale) Walz, Jeff (Tamala) Tapke; and many grreat and great-great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by 1 sister, one brother and 1 nephew.

Mr Abraham attended Pontiac schools, was a 1936 graduate of Pontiac Township High School and graduated from Gallagher School of Business, Kankakee. He was a stenographer and had been a court reporter in the greater Chicago area until his retirement in 1983, at which time he moved back to Pontiac. He served in the US Army Air Force from 1942-1945 during World War II in the Pacific theater. Mr Abraham was a member of the First Lutheran Church of Pontiac, a member of VFW Post 886 and as a volunteer he played the organ at ASTA Care Center. He was an avid dancer, fisherman and walker.
