Stewart Altemus, a veteran of the Civil War, died at 3:30 Sunday morning at his home, 202 Wolf Street, near the Easton Hospital. A complication of ailments, with which he had been suffering for some time, occasioned his death. The deceased was in the 73d year of his age. He was a native of Monroe County, but had been a resident of Easton during the past 50 years.

During the Civil War he enlisted in Company G, 38th Pennsylvania Emergency regiment. He was a member of Lafayette Post No. 217, G.A.R., and Memorial Methodist Episcopal Church.

The original spelling of the surname Altemus is Aldomus. The name was also spelled Altomus, Altimus and Altemose.
