Alexander Fagris was one of the founders of the French Icarian Society of St. Louis, Missouri, a French-based utopian socialist movement, established by the inspired readers of the politician, journalist, and author Étienne Cabet. In an attempt to put his economic and social theories into practice, Cabet led his followers to the United States of America in 1848. In America the Icarians established a series of egalitarian communes in the states of Texas, Illinois, Iowa, Missouri, and California, with the movement splitting several times due to factional disagreements.

The last community of Icarians, located a few miles outside of Corning, Iowa, disbanded voluntarily in 1898. The 46 years of tenure at this location made the Corning Icarian Colony the longest-lived non-religious communal living experiment in American history.

Alexander resided in the communal housing/neighborhood located in Rock Hill, Central Township, St. Louis, St. Louis, Missouri as enumerated in the 1860 US census.,

He and his wife, Adele Victoire, are enumerated in the 1850 census in Hancock, Illinois, along with other members of the Icarians.

Married Victoire Adéle Devierey on 28 Apr 1844 in Paris, France.

Alexander was a tailor by profession.
