Colita Fielding Barnett, 87, was born on May 7, 1926 in Ladonia, Texas. She passed away in Plano, Texas on October 26, 2013 of natural causes. She was the daughter of Mary Gladys Sockwell and George Everette Fielding and was the younger sister of Dorothy Day Fielding McMillian. Colita's family moved to Dallas while she was still a child. She graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in Dallas and attended classes at the University of Texas in Austin. She was married to Robert Hicks Barnett in 1944. She was a loving wife and devoted mother to her four children.
Colita adored animals, and was known for taking in stray animals and taking loving care of them. She loved going to the opera. She loved to sew and would make clothes for her children as well as decorations for her home. A favorite pastime was refinishing furniture. She was also an avid reader. She was always reading a new book and loved to talk about them. She was quick to pick up a new skill. Her daughter taught her how to knit and before long everyone had a knitted blanket to enjoy. She loved to garden. She always enjoyed going to her children's sporting activities. She also loved politics and was interested in helping out during campaign time. She was kind and soft spoken.
Colita was a member of First Baptist Church of Dallas. She was a member of the Jane Douglas Chapter, DAR. She helped her husband in his home business and was a Dale Carnegie Master. She enjoyed attending a Rejebian book club.
Colita was preceded in death by her husband Robert Hicks Barnett, Sr., her son Marshall David Barnett, III, her parents, Mary Gladys Sockwell and George Everette Fielding, and her sister Dorothy Day Fielding McMillian.
She is survived by her two daughters and one son; her six grandchildren; and by her eleven great grandchildren.
