James McKinley Barry, age 72, of Flower Mound, Texas died on December 18, 2014 in Flower Mound, Texas.

James was born January 11, 1942 in Fort Worth, TX to Lester Leon and Marilyn Sawyer McKinley Barry. He spent his school years in Abilene, living most of his life in Texas -- he was a Texan, through and through. In good times and bad, his sense of humor was the source of laughter and comfort for everyone who knew him.

He served three years with the US Armed Forces, 2nd Armored Division at Fort Hood, was deployed to Cuba during the Bay of Pigs and again to Germany during the Berlin crisis and received a Good Conduct Medal for his service to our country. James graduated from the University of Oklahoma earning a Bachelors in Business and went on to achieve a Masters of Finance from the University of North Texas. His earlier career in the financial field included Ford Motor, Frito Lay, General Portland, and Curtis Mathis. Later he served as CFO for Optoswitch, Optek, Argus Communications, and Arrow Magnolia.

James married Elaine Saulsberry of Oklahoma City in 1965. They lived in Norman, OK until he finished his degree. After living in several cities, they settled in Plano, TX for 14 years. He served on several boards including the Planning and Zoning Board. In 1983, he and his family moved to 6 acres in what was then very rural Flower Mound. His interests always revolved around the family -- fishing, hunting, camping, coaching little league soccer, softball and basketball, as well as a myriad of 4H activities and projects, especially lambs, chickens and rabbits and whatever else his children desired. His true passions were gardening and goat tending.

James is survived by his wife of 49+ years, Elaine Barry, three children, Jamie Lynn Mann, Matthew McKinley Barry and Catherine Barry Schroder; six grandchildren; and two brothers, Lester Leon Barry, Jr. and Layn Barry. James was preceded in death by a brother, LynnBarry, Nov. 1995 and his parents.
