Richard was born March 4, 1919, in Bellwood, Nebraska, a son of Edward and Ruby (Compton) Curtis. He married Sadie Hilmer on August 12, 1940 in Columbus, Nebraska. They lived for many years in Omaha, Nebraska. They were the parents of three daughters, Velda Harris, Judy Carey and Sandra Vandermark, and were grandparents to 10 grandchildren and 9 great-granchildren. He was also survived by his wife and two sisters (Violet Andreasen and Florence Tomasiewicz). He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and two sisters.
