Betty Sue Acuff, age 73, of 323 Calloway Court Rockmart died Sunday, December 29, 2002 in a Rome Medical Center following a lengthy illness. She was born in Crossville, IN on August 10, 1929. She was the daughter of the late Alfred Lee Paine and Ethel Hazel Smith Paine. Acuff had been a resident of the Rockmart and Cedartown area since 1967, moving here from Chattanooga, TN. She and her late husband, Jack, were in the restaurant business for a number of years and were the former owners of Polk Memory Gardens. She was a member of the Rockmart Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Andrew Jackson (Jack) Acuff, Sr., to whom she was married on October 12, 1946. Survivors include three daughters: Jackie S. Gault, Katy, TX, Cathy L. Holder, Deatsville, AL and Andrea A. Sorrells, Rockmart; one son, Andrew Jackson (Jack) Acuff, Jr., Greensboro, NC; five sisters: Ruth Keeton, Trenton, Shirley Mitchum, Wildwood, Janice Raines, Trenton, Ann Clark, Trenton, and Otelia Wheeler, Trenton; two brothers: Wendell Paine, Trenton, and Gordon Walling, Chattanooga, TN ; 9 grandchildren arid 10 great grandchildren also survive. Funeral services were held Tuesday, December 31 in the Chapel of the Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home with Ministers Craig Hallman, Robert Brooks and Alvis Miller officiating. Interment followed in Polk Memory Gardens. Nephews served as pallbearers. The Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. (The Cedartown Standard, Cedartown, GA, January 07, 2003)
