My great-grandmother died of ovarian cancer at the age of 46; my grandmother was only 12 at the time. She and her sisters eventually would do all the housework, cooking, etc.
Parepa is still a fixture in our family: my sister shares the same birth date - June 16 - and my cousin looks just like her great-grandmother.

Mrs. John Gartin died at the Derby hospital, Sunday, Nov. 12, after an operation performed Sunday morning from which she never rallied. Her sickness was of only two weeks, when it was discovered that cancer was her trouble, and an operation was necessary.
Rosa Lynch, daughter of John and Sarah Lynch, was born near Unionville, Putman county, Mo. June 16, 1876 and died Nov. 12, 1916, at the age of 46 years, 4 months and 26 days. At the age of 7 years she came with her parents to Wayne county, Iowa, where she grew to womanhood.
She was united in marriage to John W. Gartin of Wayne county, Iowa and to this union were born nine children - six boys and three girls.
Funeral services were conducted from the Sharon Baptist church by Rev. M. S. Clark in the presence of a large and sympathetic concourse of friends and interment was made in the Sharon cemetery.
She leaves to mourn their loss besides the husband and children, a host of sympathizing friends, who realize the fact that her sun has gone down at noon. May the watchful care of the Master by over the bereft ones.
