Clarence R. Wohler
Clarence R. Wohler, 91, Lincoln, died Wednesday, July 23, 1997, at Mid-America Nursing Center.
He was born Oct. 5, 1905, at Sylvan Grove, the son of Oscar and Emma (Helwig) Wohler. He was the second child in the family of eight children. He attended Bethlehem Lutheran grade school.
He married Hertha M. Dicke on March 3, 1946, at Sylvan Grove. Their union was blessed with the birth of two sons. Hertha died March 16, 1991.
He served his country during World War II as a military policeman with the Army. He was a farmer and lived in the Sylvan Grove area all of his life.
He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Sylvan American Legion Post 359, and enjoyed spending time and playing cards with his friends at the Sylvan Senior Center.
As his health failed, he became a resident of Mid-America Nursing Center, Lincoln, and was a resident there for more than two years until his death.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Hertha; a son Dean in 1979; two brothers, Edward and Elmer; and two sisters, Leona and Helen.
Survivors include his son, Lyle Wohler, Sylvan Grove; two brothers, William, Topeka, and Paul, Salina; and a sister, Ethel Stoneman, Salina.
Funeral services were held Friday, July 25, 1997, in the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Sylvan Grove. Burial was in Sylvan Grove Cemetery.
He was also a sniper who was stationed on the White House roof.
