Martha was the daughter of Joseph Fairbanks Stephens and Mary Catherine Keller. She was the granddaughter of John Nobel Stephens and Martha Almira Fairbanks. Her nickname was Siddy Stephens. Mary Catherine Keller Stephens, in her memoirs, refers to Martha as Siddy.
