VINA, AL. – Robert C. Akers, 72, died Monday, October 13, 2014 at Helen Keller Hospital. He was born in Prentiss County, Ms. and had worked at Lance Garment. He was an Elder of Red Bay Church of Christ.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, October 17, at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel, Red Bay, Al. with Bro. Scott Webster officiating. Burial will be in Sparks Chapel Cemetery, Vina, Al. Deaton Funeral Home, Red Bay, Al. will be in charge of arrangements.

Survivors are his wife of 50 years – Nancy Akers, Vina, Al.; three children – Kimberly Willingham (Jr.) and Karla Jarnigan (Randy) all of Russellville, Al. and Kendal Akers (Heather) Athens, Al.; adopted daughter - Jackie Harrison (Stacey); six grandchildren – Camron Jarnigan, Emma Willingham, Trey Willingham, Alex Jarnigan, Bethany Harrison and Cain Harrison; four foster grandchildren; a sister-in-law – Barbara Akers and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lilburn Monroe Akers and Edna Mae Sheppard Akers and a brother, Bill Akers.

Pallbearers will be Chuck Bullock, Mark Bullock, Michael Jarnigan, Allen Nichols, Herbert Trulove and Rowe Lindley.

Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Thursday, October 16, at Deaton Funeral Home, Red Bay, Al. and until service time on Friday.
