Matthew Frietchen
Matthew "Vernon" Frietchen, formerly of Leavenworth, died Friday, Aug. 22, 1997, at Topeka Health Care Center. He was 77.
Mr. Frietchen was born Sept. 24, 1919 in Salt Creek Valley to Matthew and Martha Wendel Frietchen.
Mr. Frietchen was a baker. He attended the Lutheran Church in Leavenworth. He was the last living survivor of the Spanish-American War veeteran to receive Dependen's Benefit from the Department of Veteran's Affairs.
Survivors include sister, Elizabeth "Pat" Hamilton, Leavenworth; one sister-in-law, Rose Frietchen, Leavenworth; one niece and six nephews.
Visitation is from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at the Parker-Price Mortuary in Toeka. Graveside services and interment will be at 10 a.m. tuesday at Evergreen Cemetery nort of Easton.
